Common Mistake #1: Purpose of the Letter

Not immediately clear (in the introduction):

• Use the 5-minute reading time wisely.
  • Carefully read the writing task question.
  • Identify the patient’s details and the reason for admission to introduce the patient clearly.

Not expanded sufficiently (in the conclusion):

• Review the final instructions in the case notes.
  • Provide specific recommendations in the final paragraph for a complete and accurate letter.
